Comments Off

The family of a Texas City woman who died as the result of an intestinal perforation have filed a medical malpractice lawsuit against the Dr. Kalyanam Subramanyam alleging that the physician failed to properly evaluate the patient in April of 2008, despite signs of increasing abdominal pain and no bowel movement.

According to the suit Dr. Subramanyam failed to meet the standard of care and in the face of the obvious serious condition continued make recommendations over the phone which plaintiffs insist worsened the patient’s condition.

The suit claims that rather than following up on the reports and making an actual visit to the patient, Dr. Subramanyam, ordered two more tap water enemas.

The patient was found unresponsive in her hospital bed in the early morning hours on April 22, 2008.

The autopsy report states that her colon was completely obstructed and markedly dilated.

Plaintiffs are seeking undisclosed monetary damages from both Dr. Subramanyam and Coastal Gastroenterology Associates PA with whom Dr. Subramanyam practices with.

The case has been filed in Galveston County 122nd district court where Judge John Ellisor is presiding over the proceedings.
