Just when you thought the toy recalls had finally passed, today comes news of a seven new recalls. The recalls all have been issued in association of unsafe levels of lead paint. Over 600,000 new toys and children’s jewelry are affected by the recall.

About 200,000 units of Thomas & Friends railway toys are involved in the most recent recall. The Chicago based company, RC2 Corp., that distributes these toys also recalled almost 1.5 million toys for the same problem back in June.

The recalls also include 350,000 children’s gardening sets, almost 25,000 Toby & Me jewelry sets, 16,000 toy rakes, 10,000 floor puppet theatres, 850 Knights of the Sword toys, and 850 spinning wheel necklaces designed for children.

This year has had an astronomical amount of toy recalls, more than twice as many recalls as any previous year. More than 50 recalls have been tied to excessive levels of lead paint. This is absolutely unacceptable and toy makers must improve their methods of production and quality control to ensure the safety of our children.
