Mattel Inc. has recently recalled millions of toys including many popular toys like Batman and One Piece. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has confirmed the recall of about 345,000 Batman and One Piece toys that were sold at nationwide at discount department stores between June of 2006 and July of 2007.

Small, powerful magnets inside the accessories of the toy figures can fall out and be swallowed or aspirated by young children. If more than one magnet is swallowed, they can attract inside the body and cause intestinal perforation, infection or blockage which can be fatal.
The firm is aware of 21 incidents where a magnet fell out of the toy figure, including a case of a 3-year-old boy who was found with a magnet in his mouth. The boy did not swallow the magnet and no injuries have been reported to Mattel and CPSC.

These action figures seem to have a very unique concept with the use of magnets and this will surley will become more prevelant in the future; however, saftey must be put first when developing new toy concepts and products. The CPSC urges consumer to immediately stop the use of any recalled product and contact Mattel for instructions on how to return the product.
