According to an Insurance Council of Texas report, claims made for damages resulting from Hurricane Ike have almost reached the $12 billion mark. It has been over 16 months since Hurricane Ike slammed into the Texas coast in the early morning hours of September 13, 2008 and the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association (TWIA) is still receiving hurricane damage claims.

More than 800,000 windstorm claims were filed adding up to $9.8 billion, while Texans filed claims totaling $2.2 billion, according to the report.

According to the report TWIA is expected to pay out about $1.8 billion on the claims that have been filed.

After leaving a path of destruction through Texas, Ike headed north causing over a billion dollars in damages as far north as Ohio.
